Owls have long been a source of inspiration for artists and designers. Their unique appearance and mysterious nature have made them a popular inspiration for various products. Owls can be found on various items, from home decor and fashion accessories to stationery and toys. The unique feather structures of owl wings, with serrations that break up air turbulence, have the potential to improve the design of wind turbines by reducing wind noise.

We used Stable Diffusion to generate a wide variety of creative and imaginative designs with remarkable ease. By using various prompts as inputs, we were able to quickly produce a diverse set of Owlock concepts, including the 20 designs shown above.

A similar approach was used to create owl-inspired watches. One interesting potential feature of such watches is the ability for users to change the design of their watches by switching between a large number of designs that are available for purchase.

This post is part of a series of articles on the use of generative AI for bioinspired product ideation. The use of AI for product concept generation allows for the quick creation of many potentially novel designs, which could then be evaluated and refined to select the most promising concepts to move to the next stage of the product development process.
